Forest City Johor Bahru

The mega Forest City project off Johor Baru seems to be going full steam ahead despite ongoing controversy over its reclamation plans and even as other developers have either shelved scheduled project launches or dropped them altogether.

Forest City's China developer Country Garden has already started work on one of the four islands that will eventually comprise the largest mixed development in Johor Baru. The project has an estimated value of $58.3 billion and is slated to be completed in phases over the next two decades.

Some reclamation of the Johor Strait has started, where the project will be connected to Johor via a two-lane road. Work on at least one other island is under way as well

Just Want Coffee (JWC) was established in 2009 in the form of a small and humble coffee shop in Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru and has since expanded into various outlets serving similar food and coffee. It has been one of my favourite cafes since I started my cafe-hopping journey a few years ago, paying regular visits to the shop in Permas till it eventually closed down and I had to travel further to Mount Austin to visit The Factory 30.

Ho Chi Minh City Hall

Ho Chi Minh City Hall or Hôtel de Ville de Saïgon (Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Head office - Trụ sở Ủy ban Nhân dân Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) was built in 1902-1908 in a French colonial style for the then city of Saigon. It was renamed after 1975 as Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Although this elegant colonial building is not open to public, Ho Chi Minh City Hall is very popular with tourists and offers great photo opportunities. Tourists can take photographs outside and many people choose to do this at night when the building and its grounds are lit up.

In 1990 a statue of the namesake has been installed in the park in front of the building to celebrate his 100th birthday. It displays Uncle Ho sitting next to a girl. This statue has been replaced in May 2015. The new statue is also made of bronze, is 7.2 metres high and displays Ho Chi Minh standing and greeting his followers.
