Hyangtogol Korean Restaurant at Amara Hotel

Finally! I got to eat some made in Singapore Korean cuisine. Its not going to be as authentic as the real stuff in Korea but you know its going to be good when you see local Koreans and sho nu dining here.Any respectable Korean restaurant will serve you some Banchan to start off the meal. I could count at least 9 dishes. Many of which I do not know their names but I could roughly make out what type of ingredient it was. Not meant to be filling but certainly provided something to curb our hunger.Overall an extremely enjoyable experience with my hubby. Being set in a hotel, I had expected the standard of food to be quite high and it did meet my expectations. Somehow, my gut feeling tells me that the quality of food can be replicated elsewhere in the suburbs/heartlands at more wallet friendly prices

Kovan 21 Seafood

Still there are places for good food and good variety and in the Hougang/Sengkang and Upper Serangoon neighbourhood, one good place would be Kovan. Even before the hawker centre, you can go to the surrounding coffee shops or you can find Kovan 21 Seafood at Hougang Street 21, Blk. 212.Specialises in Chinese cuisine, especially crabs. For the crabs, they have pepper, chilli, butter & cereal for example. 3 crabs for just the price of $15-18 Other specialties include cereal prawns & steamed red grouper Location wise, it is within 5 mins walk from Kovan MRT.

Heng ji Chicken Rice at Chinatown Food Centre

Out of the several chicken rice stalls in Chinatown Food Centre, Heng Ji has the longest queue. I have read that it is because of their special chilli sauce and I decided to try it for myself. The sweet-and-spicy chilli sauce was indeed unique but failed to leave a lasting impression as I would prefer my chicken rice to go with the usual spicy garlic-flavored chilli sauce. What impressed me most was instead the unmatched aroma of the chicken rice. Coated with the desirable essence of chicken broth, every golden grain of rice is distinctively fragrant and flavorful. The steamed white chicken is tender and tasty and sprinkled with light soya sauce. This is a traditional chicken rice which is outstanding in terms of the quality and fragrance of its rice. This explains why in spite of so many other delicious food at Chinatown Food Centre, people still return for more of Heng Ji chicken rice Heng Ji Chicken Rice Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre Blk 335 Smith Street #02-131

Saizeriya Italian Restaurant at City Square Mall

Saizeriya specializes in fusion food of both Asian and Western Cuisine. They sells unique yet tasty cuisine that is bound to satisfy your cravings This is a simply interesting place. It has a self-serve beverage bar, chan ting sort of interior. And the taste is surprisingly authentic for prepared Italian style food. In terms of taste, it offers one of the better values in town; but it could be a bit more filling

Mama Panda Kitchen

At the Giant Panda Forest, there is also a quaint restaurant called Mama Panda Kitchen, which is a must-try. True to its namesake, the restaurant is Panda themed and features traditional Chinese dishes with a modern twist—like the steamed Tau Sa Pau (Red Bean Paste Bun) in shape and with the face of a panda If you are planning a holiday to Singapore, be sure to save a day to visit the River Safari. What is perfect is that the Singapore Zoological Gardens, River Safari and Night Safari are all connected and the Personal Assistants at Capella Singapore are more than happy to arrange for you to visit all three attractions

Edo Sushi at Kovan Heartland Mall

I was thinking of getting some bite to eat but not necessarily a heavy meal in a restaurant or café but something light to consume. Sushi is a good meal replacement rich with natural goodness of seaweed and seafood wrapped in tasty rice. With that in mind, I came across a store called 'Edo Sushi'. The shop sells several variants of sushi comprising of seafood, mashed egg and other land food. I pondered over some selection of sushi on display and chose some seafood sushi that I could eat. The ones I selected contained food contents like crabmeat, tuna, egg and vegetables wrapped in sticky rice and seaweed. I tasted some after I bought them and it was deliciously fulfilling especially when eaten with Japanese soya sauce. Having consumed all of the sushi, I felt full but not enough to spoil my appetite for my dinner later in a few hours time

XiAN De Lai at Serangoon Nex

We came across a classy looking restaurant where special looking olden dynasty style pots were placed at each table. They were used for hotpots buffet..The front section of the restaurant were kind of crowded so we were seated at the inner section which seem better and more cozy. Their menu varieties were simple steamboat ingredients you can find anywhere, except for their handmade items such as glue type noodles There were many different kind of sauces placed near the entrance of the restaurant for self service. Twelve Cupcakes at Millenia Walk

I love cupcakes, everyone who knows me knows I love cupcakes and I'm always looking for a quick fix so was delighted when I discovered 12 cupcakes at Millenia Walk and even happier when I discovered they're practically everywhere in all malls here in Singapore. The red velvet is just divine, sometimes cream cheese can be a little too much but it was a perfect amount here, no complaints at all!

Wild Oat at Punngol Park

Located at Hougang Avenue 8, Punggol Park. My friends suggested this place, probably because it was opened by Chef Willin, one of Singapore's celebrity chefs. Hahaa, or rather, maybe I wanted to visit this place because of that! =P.. The dining area seemed to be separated into 2 main areas. One that is near the water (where the podium is), and another that is its opposite side. The smoking area is not the one near the water and lush greenaries

Old School Delights

Is it just me and my unrefined childhood tastebuds, or did the food in my canteen taste awesome? It may be a selective/tampered memory, but in my mind, the 50 cents fried chicken wings, 50 cents fried bee hoon and 50 cents mee rebus were the most awesomely delicious stuff ever. A quick check with my friends reveal that they all thought their canteen food was awesomesauce as well. In a bid to relive those very fond memories of tucking into simple homestyled fare, we dined at Old School Delights. This new-ish casual diner attempts to lead you down the hallways of nostalgia with their hawker heritage dishes and 70's and 80's memorabilia. While they certainly succeed in the knick-knacks department, what with their five-stones, flag erasures, marbles and Donkey card games, the food here was quite the letdown. Most of the stuff seemed to be served up by a novice home cook. It's not terrible, but a lot of their dishes were not even on par with those in the hawker centre, and taking into consideration the higher-than-hawker-centre prices here (which are admittedly cheap by most restaurant standards), I didn't think my money travelled the distance here. If I'm going to eat hawker-styled food in nice digs at higher prices, I'd like the food to be at least on par with those at the hawker centre. I don't mind paying more for a nicer ambience, but I do mind forking out more for sub-par food. Old School Delights 215M Upper Thomson Road

Wimbly Lu Chocalate off Upper Serangoon Road

A nondescript corner off Upper Serangoon road, lies Wimbly Lu, nestled snugly amongst the row of cookie-cutter shophouses. Say hi to the neighbours Jule Cafe Bar and The Fat Cat Bistro as you arrive. Be prepared to make rounds round the estate in attempt to find a parking slot, so i guess going on foot is highly recommended. And just in case one have no sense of direction, the arresting red-and-white beetle at the doorway should help with the orientation. Stepping into Wimbly Lu was like stumbling upon a continental-meets-vintage cafe, whereby the lights, exposed brick walls and deliberately disharmonised furniture gave off a whimsical yet homely feel. If the moniker left you dumbfounded, don’t worry, it is just a wordplay of the names of the cafe’s 2 owners. And do expect to rub shoulders with the medley of residents from nearby estates in this dessert cafe Despite many hits, there were some misses as well. But we’ll just pass these little kinks off as teething troubles Wimbly Lu has not been able to shake off. Chocoholics be pleased because they specialise in chocolates, which are not only crowd-pleasing in terms of quality but also in terms of affordability. The whole theme Wimbly Lu had adopted truely piqued the interest of many, hence explaining the crowd even despite its ulu geographical location. What else could you whine about when they do not charge for service nor GST? Wimbly Lu Chocalate 15-2 Jalan Riang Singapore 358987
Kaka Lok Restaurant 家家樂 in Taman Johor Jaya, Johor Bahru Hong Kong styled porridge 粥 or congee is one of my favourite comfort foods but I didn't see many stalls selling this classic Cantonese dish in Johor Bahru. Kaka Lok restaurant in Taman Johor Jaya is one of the few and fortunately their Hong Kong porridge or congee is good and popular :) iliked the texture of Kaka Lok's Hong Kong porridge. It was thick, globbly, heavy yet smooth. It's texture was somewhere precisely at the mid point between steamed rice and watery Teochew styled porridge (which I also liked). Manna Korean Restaurant at Telok Ayer

Manna was introduced to us by our colleagues and it's always a good sign when there are many Koreans at a Korean restaurant. We have been going to Manna for a few years now and the standards have remained consistently good. There is a wide variety of dishes and the lunch set are always popular (and reasonably priced too). Lunch time during the weekdays are packed, so it's advisable either to go early (before 12.30pm) or go later (after 1.30pm). Service is quite fast hence the tables do turn around quite quickly- it also helps they do have many tables available. Reservations are not accepted for small groups, e.g. 2pax. The restaurant is also popular with Korean tourists who do arrive by the bus loads. The banchan/ side dishes are always good and change regularly and they do allow free refills as long as within reasonable limits ( depends on the number of diners). They also serve free cold Korean tea as standard, as well as a slice of watermelon as dessert. It's always one of our favorite choice for Korean in Raffles Place (definitely better than the Manna stall in Asia Square which is about 10 min walk away). Chewy Juniors at Bugis Junctions

Sink your teeth into your first Chewy Junior and you'll know it's not any ordinary cream puff. It's crispy on the outside, yet soft and chewy on the inside, making it perfect to munch on! The puffs were an accidental creation by founder Kevin Ong, who had experimented with a blend of recipes from two different countries. Thereafter, it took him two years to adjust the processes and bring the puffs to perfection. The result is a healthier version as the puffs are baked and not fried, and use only the finest ingredients and pure dairy products from mother’s nature!
